Anniversaries

I have just received the latest bulletin from our Carmelite HQ in Rome (known as ‘the General Definitory’).  It reminds us of the next big anniversaries in the Order.  We are currently in the midst of celebrations for the centenary of the beatification of Therese (1923) and her canonisation (1925), but lo and behold, hard on the heels of that come the celebrations for the tricentenary of the canonisation of St John of the Cross (1726) and the centenary of his elevation to the rank of Doctor of the Church (1926).  Over in Spain, the preparations for those anniversaries are well under way.  The closeness to each other of the anniversaries of John and Therese is very appropriate, for John was one of the most important mentors of the saint of Lisieux.  And by the way, as if all this did not provide enough excitement, there is also to be a World Meeting of Secular Carmel in July 2026 in Avila.

Intercessions:

Chris, in Intensive Care

Im, in the throes of a long cancer treatment

Ethan, a young boy with severe health problems
